Submitting AI-generated work is plagiarism. Here’s why 👇

When it comes to copyright or intellectual property, the concern is over who owns the source. It’s a legal issue because it has to do with theft.

Plagiarism, on the other hand, has to do with passing off work from another source as your own. It’s a moral and ethical issue because it has to do with honesty, and although it is not governed by law, there are academic policies in schools that state that this is never allowed.

There are many forms of plagiarism, including “echo plagiarism,” “patchwork plagiarism,” and ghost writing.

Here’s some advice for using this teacher hack👇

- If your trojan horse includes specific words, make sure that they are written within quotation marks.
- Your trojan horse needs to be completely unrelated to your essay prompt and subject matter.
- Always include the requirement of references in your essay prompt, because ChatGPT doesn’t generate accurate ones. If you suspect plagiarism, ask the student to produce the sources.
-You can include a trojan horse at the end of short-answer questions, too.

The best way to address misuse of Al in the classroom is to be sure that you are dealing with a true case of plagiarism.

Since no plagiarism detector is currently able to claim 100% accuracy, this method is one of the few ways we can locate concrete evidence and extend our help to students who need guidance with Al.

Someone sent me a DM recently sharing with me that their admin advised that they just ask ChatGPT to identify whether or not it produced a sample of writing.

I tried this a few months ago by using my own writing from blog posts written years ago, and ChatGPT tried to claim them as it’s own writing.

Maybe OpenAl realized the problems this would cause in classrooms. But when I tried this strategy again, I still found it to be unreliable.
